Frame manufacturers can yield the most from this type of stock picture mouldings and keep their inventory down by offering cut to size special orders. These frames are fine for most people but there are alternatives for framing that special piece of wall art.

If you have ever visited an art museum or art exhibit you may have noticed that many of the paintings are mounted in ornate custom picture frames which are very unique and intricate. Ornate styles are fine as long as they don’t overwhelm the art object and attract more attention than the picture itself. If you are using small to mid size frames like 8x10 or 11x14, try placing pictures together in groups of two or three to make them more interesting. Larger sizes like 16”x20”, 20”x30” and 24”x36” can stand alone or have smaller pictures hanging on either side.
